WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's tennis team hosts Revolutionary Rival George Mason on Friday in the season's outdoor home opener at the GW Tennis Center on the Mount Vernon Campus. The Colonials will then host Atlantic 10 foe Richmond on Saturday.
Prior to Saturday's 1 p.m. match, GW will honor its 2016 A-10 Champions with a ring ceremony.
The Colonials (13-5) come off a strong win at UNC-Wilmington, 4-3, on Sunday. GW has won its last four contests - all on the road - and will play at home in three of the team's final four matches of the regular season. The Buff and Blue have triumphed in the last 13 matches at the GW Tennis Center, dating back to 2012.
Junior Chris Fletcher continues to lead the Colonials with a 13-3 dual match singles mark, playing primarily at the Nos. 2-3 positions. At the top of the ladder, senior Julius Tverijonas boasts a 10-4 record and has won his last seven completed solo bouts. The duo has teamed up for a squad-best 9-2 doubles mark this spring, all at the top spot.
George Mason (9-8) played a pair of A-10 opponents last week, sweeping La Salle before falling at Saint Joseph's, 4-2. Last season the Colonials downed the Patriots, 6-1, in Fairfax, Virginia.
GW owns a 10-2 advantage in the year-long Revolutionary Rivalry with six points still up for grabs.
Richmond (20-2) has won its last 19 matches and enters the weekend after sweeping A-10 Player and Rookie of the Week honors. The Spiders downed A-10 foe Davidson, Hampton and Christopher Newport last weekend.
The Colonials and Richmond last met in the semifinal round of the 2016 A-10 Championship, when GW took a 4-0 victory.
First serve on Friday is slated for 12:30 p.m., while Saturday's contest will begin at 1 p.m.
