WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's tennis squad wraps a stretch of five-consecutive road matches over the weekend with visits to Austin Peay on Friday and Middle Tennessee State on Saturday.
The Colonials (2-1) opnened the season with a trio of matches last weekend, downing Grand View and Northern Illinois and falling to Drake University.
Senior Julius Tverijonas claimed the first Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors of 2017 after posting two singles and two doubles wins at the No. 1 positions. Dennis Afanasev earned the league's first Rookie of the Week nod after tallying a 2-1 singles record at the No. 4 position in his spring season debut.
Austin Peay (0-2) began the spring with losses to Southern Illinois and Tennessee, claiming just one singles victory among the two matches.
Middle Tennessee State (2-2) played four matches in a six-day stretch last week to open the season, grabbing wins over Chattanooga and Tennessee State before dropping decisions to Vanderbilt and Penn. Luis Morillo Diaz enters the week as the ITA's No. 113-ranked singles player.
Friday's match is slated for 2:30 p.m. ET, while Saturday's competition will begin at 2 p.m. ET.
