Men's Tennis Sweeps A-10 Weekly Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The George Washington men's tennis team has swept the first Atlantic 10 weekly honors of the 2017 season, as senior Julius Tverijonas has been named Player of the Week and Dennis Afanasev has been named Rookie of the Week.
Tverijonas tallied two singles and two doubles victories in three matches over the weekend competing at the top spots. The Siauliai, Lithuania, native defeated his solo opponents from Grand View and Northern Illinois in straight sets to help the Colonials to a pair of victories. Tverijonas' only singles loss came to the ITA's No. 73-ranked player from Drake.
In doubles action, Tverijonas grabbed a pair of 6-2 wins against his No. 1 opponents from Grand View and Northern Illinois.
Afanasev began his first spring season with a 2-1 record over the weekend, cruising to straight-set victories over his Grand View and Northern Illinois opponents at the No. 4 spot on the ladder.
The Colonials (2-1) compete again on Friday at Austin Peay before visiting Middle Tennessee State on Saturday.
