WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's tennis team begins fall tournament play at the three-day Joe Hunt Invitational beginning on Friday, hosted by Navy.
The Colonials will compete for the first time under first-year head coach David Macpherson, who took the helm after coaching the Bryan Brothers - the top doubles pair in the United States - for 11 years.
The Joe Hunt Invitational will consist of six singles and three doubles flights. In addition to host Navy, competitors from Bucknell, Delaware, George Mason, Mary Washington, Monmouth, Morgan State, Richmond, St. Bonaventure and Temple will join GW at the weekend tournament.
The Colonials will be represented by freshmen Dennis Afanasev and William Tutecky, juniors Chris Fletcher and Christos Hadjigeorgiou and seniors Fernando Sala and Julius Tverijonas.
GW's doubles pairs will be: Tverijonas and Fletcher, Sala and Hadjigeorgiou and Afanasev and Tutecky.
A year ago, Tverijonas and Sala each won their respective doubles flights at the Joe Hunt Invitational.
GW enters the fall season after a successful spring 2016 campaign that saw the Colonials claim their fifth Atlantic 10 Championship crown in the last six seasons.
