WILMINGTON, N.C. - The George Washington men's tennis team dropped a Saturday afternoon match at No. 63 UNC Wilmington at the UNCW Tennis Complex.
The Colonials (9-8) fought hard in the doubles portion as the pair of junior Julius Tverijonas and senior Danil Zelenkov remained undefeated this spring with a 6-3 victory at the top spot. The doubles point came down to the second-flight battle, where UNCW took a tight 7-6 (7-5) win to take a 1-0 lead.
The Seahawks went on to clinch the match with victories at the Nos. 2, 6 and 1 positions. UNCW (9-6) completed a 7-0 sweep as the Nos. 3-5 matches played out in its favor.
Sophomore Chris Fletcher and junior Cahit Kapukiran took their matches to three sets at the Nos. 4 and 5 positions, respectively, but their UNCW opponents came out on top.
