GW Men's Tennis Wraps Regular Season with Victory

WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's tennis squad concluded its regular season with a decisive, 6-1, victory over Atlantic 10 foe Duquesne on senior day on Sunday at the GW Tennis Center on the Mount Vernon Campus.
The Colonials (11-8, 3-0 A-10) got out to an early lead after doubles play. The top duo of junior Julius Tverijonas and senior Danil Zelenkov continued their winning ways with a 6-2 triumph to begin the day. Tverijonas and Zelenkov complete their regular season with a perfect 10-0 mark as a tandem. Sophomore Chris Reynolds and senior Cahit Kapukiran then clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win in third-flight play.
In the singles portion, sophomore Chris Fletcher increased GW's lead with a quick, 6-1, 6-1, rout of his Duquesne foe in the No. 4 slot. Reynolds then claimed a 6-2, 6-2, victory in the No. 3 position before Zelenkov clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win in second-flight action.
Kapukiran followed with a winning, 6-2, 6-4, effort at the No. 5 spot. The Dukes (7-11, 3-4 A-10) won the top-flight match to claim their only point of the day before sophomore Christos Hadjigeorgiou closed the match with a 6-3, 6-4, triumph at the bottom of the ladder.
Prior to the match, Kapukiran and Zelenkov were honored in a senior day ceremony.
The Colonials now prepare to defend their conference title at the 2016 Atlantic 10 Championships in Charlottesville, Virginia. GW will either compete on Thursday or Friday depending on the league seedings.
