
GW Men's Tennis Downs Richmond on Saturday

RICHMOND, Va. - The George Washington men's tennis squad triumphed over Atlantic 10 foe Richmond on Saturday at the indoor Country Club of Virginia, 5-2.
Junior Julius Tverijonas and sophomore doubles partner Chris Fletcher took a decisive victory, 6-2, at the top spot to begin the match. Senior Cahit Kapukiran and sophomore Chris Reynolds solidified the doubles point for the Colonials with a 6-3 win in third-flight action.
Reynolds continued his dominance in singles play, extending GW's lead to 2-0, with his 6-0, 6-2 triumph at the No. 4 position.
Richmond tied the match at 2-2 after coming out on top in the Nos. 5 and 3 matches, but Fletcher answered with a straight-set, 6-4, 6-1, win at the No. 2 slot to put GW within one point of taking the match.
Tverijonas clinched the win for the Colonials with his top-flight victory, 6-4, 0-6, 6-4, before junior Fernando Sala took his match at the No. 6 spot, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, to put the final score at 5-2 in GW's favor.
The Colonials (4-5) wrap their weekend of play on Sunday evening at UMBC for their second Atlantic Region matchup in as many days. First serve in Baltimore is slated for 6 p.m.
