STOCKTON, Calif. - The George Washington men's tennis squad downed Nevada on Friday at Pacific in the second of three matches in a four-day span during a spring break California road trip.
The doubles point came down to the third-flight bout, as the top duo of sophomores Christos Hadjigeorgiou and Chris Fletcher took a swift, 6-1 victory and Nevada (3-8) took the No. 1 match. Sophomore Chris Reynolds and senior Cahit Kapukiran clinched the doubles point for the Colonials with a 6-3 triumph.
Reynolds continued his dominance in the singles portion, promptly taking a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 4 position to put GW up, 2-0, and triumph in his fourth consecutive solo bout.
Nevada claimed its first point of the day by taking the No. 2 contest, but Kapukiran answered with a straight-set victory in sixth-flight action to put the Colonials within one of clinching the match.
Senior Danil Zelenkov solidified the win for the Buff and Blue with his three-set, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, effort at No. 3. Junior Julius Tverijonas then won at the top spot in straight-sets before Nevada took the No. 5 match to put the score at 5-2 in favor of GW.
The Colonials (6-6) remain in Stockton, California, to wrap their California swing on Saturday at host No. 66 Pacific.
