GW Men's Tennis Claims Pair of Doubles Titles

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Colonials claimed a pair of doubles flight titles on Sunday as the George Washington men's tennis squad completed its first weekend of fall play at the Joe Hunt Invitational hosted by Navy.
GW's pair of senior Danil Zelenkov and junior Julius Tverijonas won the A Flight doubles title with a 6-2 win over Georgetown's Peter Beatty and Jordan Portner. Sophomore Jabari Stafford and junior Fernando Sala battled in a 7-6 (1) victory over Navy's Walker Sims and Tucker Massie for the B Flight crown.
In A Flight singles play, Zeleknov took second place after falling in the finals, 6-3, 6-1, to the flight's top-seeded Jaan Kononov of UMBC. Tverijonas defeated Navy's Austin Jones, 6-3, 6-3, for the flight's third place slot.
Sophomore Jabari Stafford took fifth place in the D Flight after a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Navy's Krishna Jana.
Sala, a transfer from Clemson, triumphed over Morgan State's Jeremy Field, 6-1, 6-4, in the B Flight consolation finals to wrap his first weekend of competition as a Colonial.
The Buff and Blue return to action at the Elon and George Mason Invitationals from Oct. 2-4.
