WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's tennis team has added junior transfer Fernando Sala to the roster for the 2015-16 season, 10th-year head coach Greg Munoz announced.
A native of Alicante, Spain, Sala joins the Colonials after two seasons at Clemson, where he posted an overall 15-8 singles record while competing for the Tigers. Prior to college, Sala was a two-time winner of Spain's national doubles championship and once won the nation's singles title while breaking into the top 400 International Tennis Federation (ITF) rankings. A member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) 2013-14 Academic Honor Roll, Sala intends to major in international business while at GW.
"Fernando is a very talented player," said Head Coach Munoz. "I know he will be hungry to break into the top six, and I look forward to seeing what he can bring to our team."
Sala will be the first Spanish player on the roster in Head Coach Munoz's tenure. GW's men's tennis squad is historically an internationally diverse team, with six of 2015-16's eight returners hailing from outside of the United States.
