SKILLMAN, N.J. - George Washington men's tennis senior Danil Zelenkov, junior Julius Tverijonas and sophomore Christos Hadjigeorgiou have been named 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athletes, the organization announced.
Zelenkov earns the honor for the third time in his career while Hadjigeorgiou and Tverijonas receive the distinction for the first time. ITA Scholar-Athletes must posses a grade-point average of 3.50 or higher while being enrolled at their present institution for at least two semesters.
"We have high expectations for our student-athletes with their dedication to athletics as well as academics," said Head Coach Greg Munoz. "The Department of Athletics and Recreation's Educational Support Services does a great job of helping our student-athletes stay on track, and we are proud of what our players accomplish year after year."
A 2015 Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and All-Academic selection, Zelenkov posted an overall 17-16 singles mark and led the Colonials with a 19-9 overall doubles record during his junior season. The international affairs major earned a spot on the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll while being named to the GW Athletics Academic Dean's List and garnering the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award from the Elliot School of International Affairs for the second time in his career.
Tverijonas landed on the 2015 A-10 All-Conference Second Team and All-Academic Team while being named to the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. The pre-business administration student posted an overall 9-7 solo mark with a 13-10 doubles record during his sophomore campaign.
An exercise science major, Hadjigeorgiou received A-10 All-Conference Second Team distinction with an overall singles record of 11-13 and a 9-11 doubles mark. Hadjigeorgiou earned a spot on the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for both semesters of his rookie year and was named to the GW Athletics Academic Dean's List.
