ANTALYA, Turkey - George Washington men's tennis rising junior Julius Tverijonas notched his first professional doubles title last weekend at the Turkey F20 Futures tournament at the Belconti Resort Hotel.
The Turkey F20 Futures tournament is part of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Men's Circuit, an entry level professional tennis organization.
Tverijonas and Bolivian partner Federico Zeballos defeated four pairs en route to earning the tournament championship as an unseeded team. Tverijonas and Zeballos advanced to the quarterfinal match with a dominating 6-0, 6-2 performance before defeating the draw's third-seeded pair, 5-7, 6-3 (11-9), to face the top-seeded duo of Mark Fynn (Zimbabwe) and Arthur Surreaux (France) in the semifinals.
Tverijonas and his partner battled to stage a 6-2, 6-7(5) (10-7) upset and advance to the title round against the fourth-seeded French pair of Constantin Belot and Nicolas Rosenzweig. Tverijonas and his partner triumphed in the final, claiming Tverijonas' first professional doubles championship by a score of 6-3, 6-3.
Tverijonas looks to capture his second doubles crown in as many weeks while paired with Surreaux in the Turkey F21 Futures tournament, where the duo defeated third-seeded Italians Antonio Camp and Antonial Mastrella, 6-1, 6-2, after a first-round bye. The semifinal will see Tverijonas and Surreaux take on top-seeded Ricardo Rodriguez (Venezuala) and Ruan Roelofse (South Africa) on Friday.
