GW Men's Tennis Heads South for Spring Break

WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's tennis team will start an eight-match road swing at the University of Miami on Friday in the first of two weekend contests. The Colonials will then travel to the 17th-ranked University of South Florida on Sunday in the midst of five matches in a 10-day span over the the week of spring break for the Buff and Blue's student-athletes.
GW (4-6) staged a comeback upset of No. 65 DePaul (7-4) on Saturday at home in its last match. The Colonials dropped the early doubles point and were down 3-1 before rallying to notch a 4-3 victory.
Miami (3-5) most recently fell to then-48th ranked Pepperdine on Feb. 14, but has had subsequent matches cancelled due to rain. The 75th-ranked singles player in the nation, Piotr Lomacki, is a member of the Hurricanes' roster.
No. 17 USF (7-4) comes off a Blue Gray National Tennis Classic championship last weekend, where the Bulls defeated No. 57 Boise State, No. 50 Princeton, and No. 38 Texas Tech en route to their highest ITA ranking of the season. USF claims the No. 58 doubles pair of Oliver Pramming and Justin Roberts, as well as the nation's 22nd-ranked singles player in Roberto Cid. The Bulls will serve as the fifth ranked opponent for the Colonials in 2015.
Senior Francisco Dias has won his last five completed singles matches, all at the No. 2 slot, and holds a 5-4 spring singles record, while junior Danil Zelenkov leads the Colonials with a 6-4 record in singles action.
First serve in Miami is slated for 2 p.m. on Friday at the Hurricane's Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Sunday's action at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts in Tampa, Florida, will begin at 1 p.m.
