Dias Moves Through ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. - Senior Francisco Dias advanced to the final round of the 2014 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's Tennis All-American Championships qualifying singles draw on Tuesday at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Dias, who ranks No. 91 nationally in singles, battled Thomas Weigel to a three-set 7-6 (2), 2-6, 7-6 (6) win to reach the third round of the qualifying singles draw. He will face Denys Pume of UNLV in the final round of the bracket on Wednesday at 10 a.m. CT (11 a.m. ET), with the winner of the match advancing to main draw play.
In the consolation qualifying singles bracket, junior Danil Zelenkov was edged by No. 68 Elliott Orkin of Florida, 7-6 (1), 6-3. Dias and sophomore Julius Tverijonas, the No. 34 doubles team, won their first qualifying doubles match, 7-6 (3), 6-4, over Fedor Baev and Sam Shropshire of Northwestern. The pair then fell in a three-set heartbreaker in the second round to AJ Cantanzariti and Max Lunkin of Texas A&M, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (7).
The annual ITA All-American Championships features the largest field of any collegiate tennis championship with more than 300 competitors and is comprised of three rounds of competition - pre-qualifying, qualifying and main draw. Singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive an automatic bid to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, from Nov. 6 through 9 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.
