UVA Ranked +1 Invitational Draws
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The George Washington men's tennis team wrapped Day 2 of the UVA Ranked +1 Invitational on Saturday at the Snyder Tennis Center.
The nation's No. 34 doubles tandem, senior Francisco Dias and sophomore Julius Tverijonas earned third place in the Blue Doubles draw with an 8-2 win over Wake Forest's Maksim Kan and Christian Seraphim.
Dias, who is the No. 91 singles player in the nation, worked his way through the back draw of the Orange Singles bracket with consecutive victories. Dias first downed ETSU's Ricardo Pabon, 6-3, 6-1, then earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over the Bucs' Connor Huertas del Pino. Junior Danil Zelenkov fell to No. 69 Maksim Kan of Wake Forest, 6-2, 7-5, in the back draw of the Orange Singles bracket, but fought back to top Matt Browne of Furman by set scores of 7-6, 6-2.
Tverijonas earned his way through the Blue Singles back draw with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Middle Tennessee State's Gian Issa, then defeated Michael Lippens of Louisville, 6-4, 7-6. Also in Blue Singles, junior transfer Cahit Kapukiran was edged by Old Dominion's Adam Moundir in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, but earned a win over No. 73 Adam Steryous of Furman due to injury.
The Colonials wrap the third and final day of the UVA Invite on Sunday morning.
