CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The George Washington baseball team traveled south for its second non-conference game of the week but fell by a score of 10-0 to No. 1-ranked Virginia on Wednesday afternoon at Davenport Field.
After a scoreless first inning, Virginia (25-7) scored four runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning off of GW (7-18) starter Luke Olson to take a 4-0 lead.
Freshman Jordan Sheinkop entered in relief after a leadoff walk in the top of the third and pitched effectively for the next five innings after allowing the leadoff base runner to score.
Virginia scored again in the bottom of the sixth to extend its lead to 6-0 and chased Sheinkop from the game in the bottom of the eighth, scoring four additional runs in the process to extend the lead to 10-0.
The Colonials recorded two hits in the top of the ninth but were unable to score.
GW resumes Atlantic 10 action on Friday when it opens a three-game series with conference-newcomer George Mason at Barcroft Park. A Revolutionary Rivalry point will be awarded to the winner of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
