
GW Men's Tennis Downs UMBC, 6-1

BALTIMORE, Md. - The No. 54 George Washington men's tennis team earned a 6-1 decision over UMBC on Sunday afternoon at the Retrievers' UMBC Tennis Complex.
GW (10-5) captured the doubles point then picked up singles victories at Nos. 2-6 in comfortable fashion to top UMBC (9-7). Sophomore Danil Zelenkov and senior Ulrik Thomsen won their respective singles matches in straight sets at No. 3 and No. 6 over the Retrievers.
In doubles, the No. 57 tandem of junior Francisco Dias and freshman Julius Tverijonas defeated Justin Carter and Melker Svard, 8-6, at the No. 1 position and the No. 3 senior duo of Viktor Svensson and Thomsen downed Eliott Loubatie and Kamal Patel, 8-2.
In singles action, Dias defeated Svard, 7-6 (4), 6-4, in the No. 2 match, and Zelenkov rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Loubatie at the No. 3 spot. Tverijonas downed Alex Drean, 7-5, 6-3, in the fourth flight, Svensson topped Daniel Gray, 7-6 (5), 6-3, in No. 5 play and Thomsen defeated Patel at No. 6 by scores of 6-1, 6-2.
GW returns to the court when it opens Atlantic 10 action at home against Fordham and Richmond on April 4 and 5, respectively. First serve for both matches at the GW Tennis Center is slated for 12 p.m.
