2015 Schedule
WASHINGTON - After winning the Atlantic 10 Championship title in 2014 for the third time in four seasons, George Washington men's tennis Head Coach Greg Munoz announced a robust schedule for 2015 featuring nine opponents who finished the 2014 campaign ranked in the top 75 nationally.
Finishing last season ranked a program-best No. 53, the Colonials will face six 2014 NCAA Championship qualifiers during the spring season.
"We are taking a big leap this year as we strive to improve on our No. 53 ranking," said Coach Munoz, who is in his ninth season at GW. "We have practically doubled our schedule of top-75 teams. This will be a great challenge for our young team."
The Buff and Blue start the spring at the ITA Kickoff hosted by Virginia from Jan. 23-24. The squad returns to the nation's capital for a home indoor bout with East Carolina, which ended 2014 ranked No. 73, on Friday, Jan. 30 at 9 a.m. at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center. The Colonials then travel to Cornell, who finished last season ranked 58th, for a 2 p.m. match on Saturday, Jan. 31, to start a road stint that includes a visit to Wichita State to take on UTSA (Feb. 7) and the host Shockers (Feb. 8). GW also competes in the ECAC Indoor Championships, hosted by Columbia, from Feb. 13-15 before wrapping up the road trip with matches against Georgia State (Feb. 21) and Stetson (Feb. 22) in Atlanta.
The Colonials return home to host DePaul on Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. before hitting the road for the entire month of March. The highly competitive road trip will include stops at five opponents who ranked in the top 75 in the final 2014 national poll, beginning with No. 55 Miami (March 6), No. 23 South Florida (March 8) and No. 69 Central Florida (March 10), before heading to Atlantic 10 foe Davidson on March 14. The squad travels to face last season's 52nd-ranked Elon on March 15, before wrapping up road play at Rice, where they will face the Owls and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on March 28 and 2014's 63rd-ranked Louisiana on March 29.
GW finishes the 2015 regular season at home, welcoming last spring's 50th-ranked UNC-Wilmington (April 4, 1 p.m.) and 71st-ranked St. John's (April 5, 9 a.m.) before UMBC (April 12, 2 p.m.) and A-10 rival George Mason (April 18, 3 p.m.) visit the GW Tennis Center on the Mount Vernon Campus.
The Colonials will travel to Mason, Ohio, to defend their Atlantic 10 title at the Lindner Family Tennis Center from April 23-26, looking to reach their sixth consecutive title match.
