GW Men's Tennis' Dias Falls at ITA Atlantic Regionals

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Senior Francisco Dias advanced to the 2014 USTA/ITA Atlantic Region Championships singles semifinal round, but the senior was ultimately edged by the tournament's No. 1 seed on Monday afternoon at Virginia's Snyder Tennis Center.
Eighth-seeded Dias - who is ranked No. 91 nationally in singles - first defeated Virginia's Luca Corinteli, 6-4, 7-6 (1), in the quarterfinal round on Monday morning.
Competing in his second match of the day, the Lisbon, Portugal native dropped the first set to top-seeded and No. 14 Amerigo Contini of Virginia Tech, 4-6, but battled back from being down, 3-5, and saving five match points to take the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (5). Dias was ultimately edged in the third set in another tiebreaker, 6-7 (4).
The senior standout closes the fall season with an overall singles record of 8-5.
GW returns to the courts to open the spring 2015 season on Sunday, Jan. 18 with a home match against Morgan State.
