GW Men's Tennis Heads to ITA Atlantic Regional Championships

Main Singles Draw | Doubles DrawWASHINGTON - The George Washington men's tennis team travels to Charlottesville, Virginia this week for its final round of fall competition at the 2014 USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional Championships, running from Thursday, Oct. 16 through Monday, Oct. 20 at Virginia's Snyder Tennis Center.
The first rounds of main draw singles and doubles are set to begin on Friday morning. The tournament is a single-elimination format and winners of the singles and doubles flights will earn automatic bids to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships, which will be held from Nov. 6-9 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.
Sophomore Julius Tverijonas, juniors Cahit Kapukiran and Danil Zelenkov, and senior Francisco Dias - the No. 91 singles player in the nation - all received first-round byes in the main singles draw and will open play on Friday afternoon in the Round of 64. The doubles duo of Kapukiran and Zelenkov will face Liberty's Sam Matheson and Dillon Segur on Friday at 9 a.m., and Dias and Tverijonas - the 34th-ranked pair - received a bye and will begin action on Friday in the Round of 32.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Region includes schools located in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. GW is joined by 28 other schools in Bucknell, Delaware, Duquesne, George Mason, Georgetown, James Madison, Liberty, Longwood, Marshall, Maryland, Maryland Eastern Shore, Navy, Norfolk State, Old Dominion, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Radford, Richmond, Saint Joseph's, Temple, Towson, UMBC, VCU, Villanova, host Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and William & Mary.
