GW Men's Tennis Set for ITA Atlantic Regionals

WASHINGTON - George Washington men's tennis heads to Blacksburg, Va., this weekend for the 2013 USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional Championships, running from Thursday, Oct. 14 - Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Virginia Tech's Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
A quintet of Colonials will compete at the annual tournament - senior Nikita Fomin, who owns a No. 74 ITA National Singles Ranking, and classmate Viktor Svensson, in addition to No. 90 junior Francisco Dias, sophomore Danil Zelenkov and rookie Daniel O'Connor.
O'Connor will face Jonas Kuwert of Old Dominion in the first round of main draw singles, while the remainder of the Colonials all received a first-round bye. The tandem of Dias and Svensson will open doubles play against ODU's Jonas Kuwert and Zvonimir Podvinski, and Fomin and Zelenkov received a bye through the first round of doubles action.
The first rounds of main draw singles and doubles are set to begin on Friday morning. The tournament is a single-elimination format and winners of the singles and doubles flights will earn automatic bids to the ITA National Indoor Championship in November.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Region includes schools located in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. GW is joined by 21 other schools in Bucknell, Delaware, Duquesne, George Mason, Georgetown, James Madison, Liberty, Longwood, Morgan State, Navy, Norfolk State, Old Dominion, Penn State, Radford, Richmond, St. Joseph's, Temple, UMBC, VCU, Virginia and host Virginia Tech.
