Men's Tennis Advances to the Atlantic 10 Championship Finals

ST. LOUIS, MO - After a two-hour weather delay to start the second day of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Tennis Championship, George Washington defeated Duquesne, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center to advance to the finals on Sunday.
The Colonials quickly took a 1-0 lead when they secured the doubles point over the Dukes. Viktor Svensson and Ulrik Thomsen won the first doubles match at the No. 3 position, 8-3, while Chirstopher Kushma and Alexander van Gils won 8-5, at the No. 2 doubles match to secure the point.
In singles action, GW's No. 4-6 matches quickly overtook their Duquesne opponents. Svensson won the first GW point with a 6-2, 6-1, victory over Kyle O'Leary at the No. 6 singles position. At the No. 4 singles match, senior Erik Hannah defeated Max Rubin 6-2, 6-1.
Van Gils captured the pivotal fourth team point for the Colonials at the No. 5 singles match, defeating Steve Herchko, 6-2, 6-2.
The Colonials will take on the winner between the No. 3 seed Temple and the No. 2 seed Xavier at 12:00 pm on Sunday at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center. GW has defeated both potential opponents during the 2011 regular season. The Colonials worked together to come out on top of the Owls, 5-2, and just ahead of the Musketeers, 4-3.
