WASHINGTON, DC-- George Washington men's tennis freshmen Ulrik Thomsen and Viktor Svensson have been named Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Performer and Rookie Player of the Week, respectively, the League announced on Monday.
"Ulrik and Viktor have worked extremely hard on their fitness to raise the level of their games since the fall," said head coach Greg Munoz. "I expect both of them to continue to improve throughout this semester and in their upcoming years. They have so much raw talent. It's great seeing them progress each week."
Thomsen went 4-0 in his doubles and singles matches over the weekend. He defeated Richmond's Justin Baker in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) on Saturday and was the only Colonial to pick up a singles win over No. 58 VCU's Filip Svensson on Sunday, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(7).
Viktor Svensson extended his singles-wins streak to seven matches last week, downing his counterpart at Richmond, 6-3, 6-1.
Together the pair defeated Richmond's Fauchet and Schrode at No. 2 doubles, 8-3, and then defeated VCU's Filip Svensson and Jordan Dyke, 8-5, at No. 3 doubles.
The Colonials continue on the road to Boca Raton, FL, to take on Florida Atlantic on Sunday, March 13, at 1 p.m. at FAU's Patch Reef Park Tennis Center.
