Men's Tennis Powers Past Navy, 6-1

Annapolis, MD - The George Washington men's tennis team was in top form when they defeated Navy, 6-1, at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis on Wednesday. The Colonials improved to 9-6 on the season while the Mids fell to 12-8.
"Ugur Atalay played great tennis today," said head coach Greg Munoz. "It is nice to see Ugur back in top form. He made the match look easy over a very tough opponent. The rest of the team took care of business, only dropping one match that could have gone either way at No. 2 singles."
Atalay teamed up with senior Erik Hannah at No. 1 doubles to defeat Nick Birger and Owen Bullard, 8-3. Richard Blumenfeld and Viktor Svensson secured the doubles point with an 8-6 victory at No. 3 doubles.
The Colonials carried the momentum into their singles matches. Alexander van Gils defeated his opponent at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-2, while Svensson won 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 6 singles match.
Atalay and Christopher Kushma followed suit and defeated their Navy opponents in straight sets at the No. 1 and No. 3 singles matches respectively, to put the Colonials up 5-0.
Yan Levinski battled against Marcus Rebersak at the No. 2 match, coming back after dropping the first set 7-5, winning the second 6-3, before falling in a super tiebreaker 1-0 (14-12).
Hannah won the No. 4 singles match 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, over Nicholas Gutsche.
The Colonials head on the road to take on the Longwood Lancers on Friday, March 25, with matches set to start at 2:00 pm.
