Colonials Win Fourth Straight, Drop CCSU 8-5

ARLINGTON, VA- Freshman Craig Lejeune earned the win in his first collegiate start and sophomore Brett Bowers was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI to lead the George Washington baseball team to an 8-5 victory over Central Connecticut State on Friday morning at Barcroft Park.
LeJeune allowed just two earned runs in five innings of work while striking out four batters. The Colonial offense provided him with a three-run lead after falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning.
In the bottom half of the opening frame sophomore Justin Albright doubled and later scored on freshman Owen Beightol's RBI single. Sophomore Paul Pakan followed with a two-run single and Bowers drove in his first run of the day on an RBI single to give GW (6-9) a 4-1 lead.
CCSU would get two runs in the top of the fourth inning but the Colonials responded immediately in the bottom half as Beightol provided an RBI single followed by a two-run double by Bowers to extend the lead to 7-3.
Junior Luke Mirabella came out of the bullpen to work two scoreless innings while graduate student Chris Keiper retired the final batter of the day to earn his first save of the season.
Junior Stephen Oswald was 3-for-3 while Pakan finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.
The Colonials will take their four-game winning streak to Bethesda, MD on Tuesday afternoon to visit district rival Georgetown at 3:00pm. The Hoyas defeated GW 12-7 on March 2 at Barcroft Park.
