Norfolk, VA - GW men's tennis powered through doubles matches to quickly take a 1-0 lead on Old Dominion on Friday at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center. The Colonials fell 4-3 to the Monarchs.
The Colonials won the doubles point for the first time in five seasons over the Monarchs when all three GW doubles teams won to secure the point.
"We are doing many things well," said head coach Greg Munoz. "We are a stronger team than last year."
Freshmen Viktor Svensson and Ulrik Thomsen won in straight sets at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively.
"We are playing our best tennis," said Munoz. "Now we need to play smarter. I am excited to see this team grow throughout the season. They played strong doubles and know they can even play better."
At the No. 4 singles match, senior Erik Hannah battled back to take the second match to force a deciding third set. Hannah fought off seven match points before falling 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
ODU's top three singles players outdid GW's in straight sets to secure the 4-3 victory.
