Men's Tennis Defeats Charlotte, 6-1

CHARLOTTE, NC --The George Washington men's tennis team jumped to a quick lead over the Charlotte 49ers on Friday at the Halton-Wagner Complex, and didn't look back as they won 6-1. GW improves to 5-4 on the season, while Charlotte falls to 3-7.
Perfect against Atlantic 10 opponents (4-0), the Colonials swept the 49ers in close doubles matches. Freshmen Ulrik Thomsen and Viktor Svensson defeated Charles Martin-Lecamp and Chris Huynh, 8-5, teaming up for the first time during the spring season.
"This is our sixth week of traveling and the boys are feeling it," said head coach Greg Munoz. "They stepped up big today with a strong mental showing. Charlotte is a dangerous outside team and we are happy we came up with a big win."
Senior Erik Hannah won his fifth consecutive singles match in straight sets over Victor Theorin (6-0, 6-1) at No. 5 singles, as did Yan Levinski over Anthony Davison (6-4, 6-2) at No. 2 singles.
Svensson's No. 6 victory over Krzysztof Kwasniewicz (6-1, 6-2) put the Colonials ahead of the 49ers, before Martin-Lecamp defeated Ugur Atalay at No. 1 singles (7-5, 6-2).
The Colonials continue their road trip on Saturday, Feb. 26, when they take on No. 68 Elon at 2:00 p.m. at The Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. GW's match against Elon will be their seventh of 15 consecutive matches away from the Mount Vernon Tennis Center.
