WASHINGTON, DC -- George Washington men's tennis freshman Ulrik Thomsen was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the Conference announced on Monday.
The Copenhagen, Denmark native went 2-1 in weekend action at the No. 5 and 6 singles. He picked up wins against Penn's Nikola Kocovic, (5-7, 6-4, 6-2), on Friday and Temple's Taylor Hairston, (7-5, 6-0), on Saturday.
Thomsen boasted a three-match winning streak heading into Sunday's match at No. 47 Columbia. The first-year Colonial's streak was snapped in a straight-set defeat, (1-6, 0-6), to Tizian Bucher.
Thomsen and the Colonials are gearing up for Atlantic 10 Conference play this weekend, when the team takes on fellow preseason A-10 favorite Xavier Saturday, Feb. 19, in Pittsburg, PA, at 1:00 pm. GW then takes on Duquesne Sunday, Feb 20, with matches starting at 10:00 am.
