Men's Tennis Strong Singles Play Defeats Temple, 5-2

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The George Washington men's tennis team regrouped after dropping the doubles point to Atlantic 10 conference opponent Temple to win 5-2, Saturday night at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center. The Colonials improve to 2-3 on the season.
The Colonials dropped the doubles point, falling in 9-8 (2) tie-breakers at the No. 2 and No. 3 matches.
"We need to keep improving our doubles though we did have match points in doubles but we have eight guys right now playing solid singles," said head coach Greg Munoz. "Depth is a huge factor in winning conference and we are heading in a good direction."
In singles action, GW stepped up their game. Junior Ugur Atalay fell in straight sets to Filip Rams, 6-1, 6-3, as the only Colonials' singles loss.
Seniors Yan Levinski and Christopher Kushma both won 6-3, 6-3, at No. 2 and No. 3 matches respectfully. At No. 4 singles Alexander van Gils won 6-2, 6-2, while Erik Hannah won 6-2, 6-3.
Freshman Ulrik Thomsen won his third singles match in a row, when he defeated Taylor Hairston, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.
The Colonials return to action on Sunday, Feb. 13, when they take on No. 47 Columbia at 2:00 p.m. at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center.
