WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington men's tennis team was named to the 2010 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Teams on Monday. The Colonials are one of 27 Division I teams to have at least a cumulative team grade point average of 3.2.
The Colonials also had five varsity letterwinners named as 2010 ITA Scholar Athletes, earning at least a 3.5 GPA in the 2009-10 academic year. Juniors Ugur Atalay, Richard Blumenfeld and Andy Erickson, as well as seniors Chris Kushma and Yan Levinski were named ITA Scholar Athletes.
The men's tennis team was named the 2010 Colonial Endowment Academic Excellence Award winner as the men's athletic program with the highest team combined grade point average over the fall 2009 and spring 2010 semesters at a 3.45 GPA.
GW (11-10) placed second at the 2010 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship. The Colonials recorded a 6-1 overall record against opponents from the A-10 during the season. GW kicks off the fall 2010 season at the UVa Classic in September.
