Colonials Topple Owls To Get into A-10 Championship Match

MONROEVILLE, PA-- The George Washington men's tennis team defeated Temple Saturday afternoon, 4-1, to play for the 2010 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship title against Xavier on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
The Colonials battled to win a tough doubles point over the Owls after Chris Kushma and Erik Hannah fell at No. 1 doubles to Dmitri Vizhunov and Filip Rams, 8-2.
No. 2 duo, Ugur Atalay and Richard Blumenfeld outlasted Mansur Gishkaev and Stanislav Stekolshikov to win, 9-8 (4). Yan Levinski and Ken Mkrtchian teamed up to win 8-3 over Kacper Rams and Andrey Morozov at No. 3 doubles for the doubles point.
Kushma extended his winning streak at No. 3 singles to eight, with a 6-4, 6-2, win over Kacper Rams. Blumenfeld also defeated his Temple opponent, Stekolshikov, 6-3, 6-4, to help the Colonials go up 3-0 on the Owls.
Filip Rams defeated Atalay at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1, for Temple's only singles win.
The deciding point came down to the No. 2 singles match between GW's Hannah and Temple's Morozov. Hannah was victorious 6-4, 6-4, to secure the Colonials victory.
The Colonials will face Xavier for the Atlantic 10 Championship at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Club4Life in Monroeville, PA.
