
Colonials Sweep Past Coppin State in Doubleheader

IRVINGTON, VA - The Colonials returned to Dream Field in Irvington, VA and defeated Coppin State 11-4 in the first game of a doubleheader. George Washington broke open a close game with a six-run fifth inning to get past the Eagles for the second straight day. Junior Joe Richardson threw seven innings, allowing three earned runs and picking up his first win of the season.
Freshman Justin Albright, junior Brendon Kelliher and sophomore Stephen Oswald each hit their first home run's of the season the contest. Senior Jon Chirumbolo also reached base three times and scored two runs.
Game 2:
George Washington blew past the Eagles in the second game of the doubleheader as well en route to a 16-3 victory. The Colonials led 10-1 after two innings and coasted to the victory in seven innings.
Freshman Tyler McCarthy drove in four runs and senior Tom Zebroski recorded three hits, including a home run and scored three runs. Freshman Justin Albright also drew two walks and scored three runs.
Senior Ryan Lapointe picked up his first win of 2010 by throwing four innings and allowing just one earned run, striking out five. The Colonials also didn't allow an earned run in three innings out of their bullpen, with Bobby Lucas, Marshall Seedorff and Stephen Oswald all allowing no earned runs.
The Tuesday game at Barcroft Park against UMBC has been postponed, so the Colonials return to the field next Friday, March 5th when they travel to USC Upstate. First pitch of the first game is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
