Men's Tennis Takes on Georgetown at Navy Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, MD - GW men's tennis swept Georgetown in the top-5 singles matches in the first day of the Navy Gold Invitational held at the USNA Tennis Courts on Friday.
Senior co-captain Christopher Kushma and sophomore Alexander van Gils started the competition with a hard fought victory over Georgetown's Andrew Bruhn and Michael Clarke, 9-8 (7-5), which proved to be GW's only doubles win.
Van Gils took his No. 1 singles match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, over Clarke, as Kushma took the first set of his No. 2 match against Caris, 6-1, fell in the second set tie-breaker, 6-7 (7-9), but bounced back to take the third set 1-0 (10-3).
In the No. 3 singles match Thomsen took the three-match battle against Bruhn, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6). Svensson won his No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-2, over Casey Distaso.
Senior Yan Levinski defeated Brian Ward, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Sophomore Ken Mkrtchian defeated Rafael Notario 6-3, 6-2.
The Colonials continue at the Navy Gold Invitational against Navy, Saturday at 9 a.m., and against UMBC on Sunday, at 9 a.m.
