Men's Tennis Sends Six to ITA Atlantic Regional

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - GW men's tennis opens the 2010 ITA Atlantic Regional today at the University of Virginia's Snyder Tennis Center. The winners of the singles and doubles bracket will qualify for the 2010 ITA National Indoor Championships November 4-7, in Flushing, NY.
The Atlantic Region is comprised of schools from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Virginia's Jarmere Jenkins won the singles title, while Cavalier duo of Sanam Singh and Houston Barrik won the doubles title last year.
The Colonials have six players in the singles draw and three doubles pairs competing, including doubles partners Christopher Kushma and Alexander van Gils who earned a Round of 64 bye but are in the top half of the bracket with UVa's Alex Domijian and Jarmere Jenkins. Domijian and Jenkins defeated Erik Hannah and Ugur Atalay in the qualifing bracket at the 2010 D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships, while Domijian went on to win the tournament in singles.
Atalay and Hannah earned a Round of 64 bye as well, and will face the winner between a UVa-Saint Joseph's match-up later in the day. Yan Levinski and Viktor Svensson will take on Morgan State's Kevon Charles and Eric Ward at 3:30 p.m.
In singles action, van Gils began the day against Atlantic 10 opponent Andrey Morozov from Temple, and Levinski set to take on Adrian Vodislav from William & Mary and Svensson battling with VCU's Max Wennakoski.
Afternoon singles matches include Atalay taking on UMBC's Shane Yap at 12:00 p.m., Kushma versus Sebastien Fauchet from Richmond at 1:00 p.m., and Hannah's match against Collin Laffey from Lehigh will start at 1:30 p.m.
