WASHINGTON, DC -- George Washington University junior Chris Kushma kept his winning streak going at the Georgetown Classic tournament, not dropping a set on the way to capturing the singles title.
Kushma beat teammate sophomore Ugur Atalay in quarterfinals, as Atalay was looking for back-to-back appearances in the finals of the Georgetown Classic. Other past GW top seed winners include two-time winner Mustafa Gencsoy.
In doubles action, Atalay paired with Erik Hannah fell to James Madison's duo Mike Smith and Matt King, 8-5 in the doubles finals.
GW men's tennis newcomer freshman Ken Mkrtchian, getting his first taste of collegiate tennis, beat No. 3 seed Tommi Nissinen from James Madison in the first round, won his second round match before getting a bit fatigued, falling 6-4, 6-0, in the third round match.
The men's tennis fall schedule resumes Friday, Oct. 2, at the Sergio Tacchini Invitational, on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.
