Colonials Fall 8-4 To Tigers

ARLINGTON, VA - The George Washington University baseball team (19-25, 8-9 A-10) returned home to Barcroft Park Tuesday afternoon, but fell to Towson (21-20) in an out of conference matchup. Junior Ryan Lapointe got the start for the Colonials and gave up three earned runs in three innings. The offense was led by designated hitter Curtis Eward, who collected three hits and scored a run.
Each team got on the board in the first inning when the Colonials scored on a Brendon Kelliher sacrifice fly to tie the score at one. The Tigers though took the lead in the second inning when they scored two runs and another run in the fourth inning.
The Colonials scored on another sacrifice fly in the fifth inning, this time by Sean Rockey and Eward darted home on a wild pitch in the sixth inning to pull the Colonials within two runs after six innings.
That was as close as they got though as the Tigers scored three seven inning runs to extend their lead.
Junior Bobby Lucas provided some strong relief out of the bullpen by throwing two shutout innings and striking out three.
George Washington will now travel to James Madsion tomorrow for an evening contest against the Dukes, with first pitch at 7:00 p.m. The Colonials will return home this weekend when they host Saint Louis in a big A-10 conference series. Friday's contest is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m., while Saturday will begin at 1:00 p.m. and Sunday's finale is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
