WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington men's tennis tallied two more victories this season after defeating Georgetown, 5-2, Friday morning and Howard, 5-2, Friday afternoon.
In singles action against Georgetown, the Colonials were able to take five of six matches, only falling at the No. 1 position. In the No. 2 flight, Ugur Atalay defeated Andrew Burhn in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Richard Blumenfeld also won in straight sets at the No. 6 position over Kevin Walsh, 6-2, 6-2.
Doubles against Georgetown did not go as well as GW would have liked, with Georgetown taking two of three matches.
In afternoon play against Howard at Mount Vernon Tennis Center, GW swept Howard in the doubles competition.
Howard was able to steal two matches in singles play from the Colonials. GW won three of four matches in straight sets. Andy Erickson and Chris Seckman saw action against Howard. Erikson defeated his Howard opponent in straight sets 6-0,6-0, while Seckman fell in a third set tie-breaker.
The Colonials wrap up the 2009 regular season at James Madison, in Harrisonburg, VA, Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m., before gearing up for the 2009 Atlantic 10 Tennis Championships, April 24-26, in Monroeville, PA.
