Men's Tennis Gets a Split in North Carolina

GREENSBORO & CHARLOTTE, NC -- The George Washington University men's tennis team fell to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, 4-3, on Friday afternoon and defeated Charlotte, 4-3, Saturday.
At Greensboro, Yan Levinski won his No. 2 singles match 6-3, 6-3. At the No. 4 singles position Chris Kushma won his match 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, while Arya Vayghan won his No. 6 match-up 6-3, 6-0.
In doubles play against UNCG, the Colonials fell in all three matches.
On Saturday at Atlantic 10 Conference rival Charlotte, the Colonials duo of Levinski and Kushma won their No. 2 doubles match, 8-4, while GW fell in the No. 1 and No. 3 match-ups.
Levinski took the momentum into his singles match, winning at the No. 1 position 6-4, 6-3. Erik Hannah won at the No. 3 position 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1, while Alex Sohaili was victorious at the No. 5 spot for the Colonials.
The match against Charlotte came down to the No. 6 singles match as the deciding factor for the win. GW's Vaghan, who had just battled back from a long bought of illnesses, took the first set 6-3, dropped the second set 3-6, but came back to force a tie-breaker in the third set to win the match 7-6 (3).
The Colonials next host the Duquesne Dukes on Saturday, March 14, at 7:00 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Tennis Courts.
