Men's Tennis Gets Win Over UMBC, 6-1

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington men's tennis team defeated UMBC, 6-1, Monday, at the Mount Vernon Tennis Center, for GW's first win at Mount Vernon in over three years.
In singles play, the Colonials were victorious in the first four flights. At No. 1 singles, Yan Levinski came back to defeat Nicolas Savage-Pollock 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5). Ugur Atalay defeated Fredi Voorman in straight sets 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2. Erik Hannah was also victorious in straight sets at No. 3 over Chris Myer 6-3, 6-2. Chris Kushma extended his winning streak to seven after he defeated Allen Tsang 6-3, 7-6(2). Arya Vayghan also tallied a victory over Logan Bricker 7-5, 7-6 (5) at No. 6 singles.
"To come out today after a weekend of two hard matches and to look energetic and play so sharp, made me feel like their hard work on and off the court is starting to pay off," said head coach Greg Munoz.
The Colonials only dropped No. 1 doubles to UMBC. The duo of Ugur Atalay and Richard Blumenfeld fell to Saveage-Pollock and Voorman 8-5. Kushma and Levinski at No. 2 doubles and Hannah and Vayghan at No. 3 both won their doubles matches 8-5 over UMBC.
"We have a tough month ahead of us and we can still improve on some areas," said Munoz. "If we play smart and stay healthy, we will be tough to beat in the month of April."
GW hosts St. Bonaventure on April 3, at 10:00 a.m. at the Mount Vernon Tennis Center before hitting the road for Ohio to face Dayton on April 4 at 11:00 a.m. and Xavier, April 5 at 11:00 a.m.
