Annapolis, MD - The George Washington University men's tennis team defeated Navy, 4-3, Wednesday at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
In singles play, GW took the top three flights over Navy including a big three-set victory for Ugur Atalay 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 over Navy's Nate Nelms.
"The players I expected to step up in the singles did," said head coach Greg Munoz. "Erik Hannah, Chris Kushma and Yan Levinski came out with strong performance to give us the momentum we needed."
The doubles duo of Yan Levinski and Chris Kushma carried the momentum from singles play into their No. 2 doubles match-up. Levinski and Kushma defeated Jason Hill and Nick Birger, 8-6, to give GW the final edge to win.
"After a rough first set, Alex Sohaili kept us alive by winning a thrilling second set tiebreaker 18-16," said Munoz. "That momentum helped Ugur Atalay pull out his second 3 set victory over Nate Nelms of Navy."
The Colonials travel to Radford on Mar. 28 at 2 p.m. and to Longwood on Mar. 30 in Farmville, VA, at 1 p.m. GW then returns home to host UMBC on Mar. 30 at 2 p.m.
