Colonials Fall To William & Mary 9-4

ARLINGTON, VA - The George Washington University baseball team (6-8) returned to action Tuesday afternoon and dropped a 9-4 decision to William & Mary at Barcroft Park. Freshman Luke Mirabella got his first start in a Colonial uniform, but lasted just 2 1/3 innings in the loss.
The Colonials took advantage of some early Tribe miscues to score first with a run in the first inning, but quickly gave the lead back with some errors of their own. The Colonials allowed two runs in the second and three more in the third to William & Mary and soon found themselves down 5-1 going into the bottom of the third.
Senior Tim Reeves hit a two-RBI single in the bottom of the frame and the back-and-forth affair to cut the lead to 5-3 after three innings.Tribe starter Matt Davenport allowed just three runs, two earned, in five innings.
The Tribe scored single runs in each of the next four innings and George Washington was only able to match once, and found themselves 9-4 after seven complete.
William & Mary closer Kevin Landry came in for the bottom of the sixth and struck out six in three perfect innings to pick up the save. Two of the four Colonials runs were scored on errors as the team had trouble picking up the big hit today with runners in scoring position.
GW Juniors Chris Holland and Curtis Eward each had a pair of hits in the loss and senior Tim Reeves led the Colonials with two RBIs. Freshman Marshall Seedorff ended the game strong for George Washington as he pitched the final three innings and only allowed one run.
The Colonials (6-8) will now travel to Mt. St. Mary's (1-6) on Thursday, March 12, before returning to Barcroft Park to host the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils for a weekend series on March 13-15. Friday's game will start at 3:00 p.m., while both weekend games will start at 1:00 p.m.
