WASHINGTON, DC -- The Colonials men's tennis team continued its impressive fall run in the Georgetown Classic last weekend at the Georgetown courts.
GW freshman Ugur Atalay made his tournament debut by reaching the finals of the Georgetown Classic this weekend. Atalay played hard-fought matches each day before succumbing to cramping late in his third set final. He showed true heart in fighting to win the second set.
UMBC's Fredi Voorman played world class tennis and didn't give Atalay many chances to capitalize. "They both played a great match," GW coach Greg Munoz said.
GW freshman Alex Sohaili made his collegiate debut by falling in three sets to semifinalist Mike Smith of James Madison. "Alex impressed me this weekend as he capitalized on his athleticism giving him two match points before falling in three sets to a very talented volleyer from JMU," Munoz added. "We have great talent this year. A healthy team will make us a strong team. We begin our off-court training today and I think that will better prepare us for the weeks and months ahead."
Next up for the Colonials is the Princeton/Farnsworth Invitational, Sept. 26-28, at Princeton, NJ.
