WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington men's tennis (6-10, 3-3 A-10) lost their first home match of the season on Friday, falling to Navy, 4-3, but rebounded on Sunday to defeat St. Bonaventure, 5-2.
In Friday's contest against Navy, the Midshipmen recorded victories in each of the three doubles matches to claim the point. In singles play, GW started strong, tallying three wins in the top three singles' flights, but Navy proved too strong in the lower half. The Mids took the final three points to claim the match, 4-3.
It was Navy's fourth consecutive victory. GW's wins in the top three seeds of singles play came from Mustafa Gencsoy, Sam Salyer and Brandon Harris.
On Sunday, the Colonials bounced back and earned a much needed conference victory against St. Bonaventure. Again, GW started slowly, dropping the doubles point. However, in singles play, the Colonials dominated, taking five of the six matches. Mark Doumba, Elliott Daniels and Maxx Wattenberg (seeds 3-6, respectively) all earned wins in the singles portion. Gencsoy and Harris were both 2-0 over the weekend in singles match-ups.
With their regular season schedule now complete, GW men's tennis will compete in the Atlantic 10 Championship in Monroeville, PA, beginning on Thursday, April 5th.
