Towson Powers Past George Washington

TOWSON, MD - Towson University (9-16) scored five runs in the second inning and six in the fourth as they cruised past George Washington (8-16) by a final of 19-2 Wednesday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.
Towson opened the scoring in bottom of the second, putting five runs on the board. The Tigers loaded the bases on two walks and two singles, and then Kyle Shellchock cleared them all with a triple to deep center field. Hans Falkenhan followed with a double to drive in the fifth run of the frame.
In the top of the fourth, the Colonials loaded the bases with no outs on three straight singles, but managed only one run. First baseman Curits Eward (Oak Hill, VA/Oakton) grounded into a 6-4-3 double play that allowed Michael Parker (Newton, MA/Newton) to score, cutting the Towson lead to 5-1.
The Tigers added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth, plating six more runs. A pair of home runs from Nick Natoli and Hans Felkenhan highlighted the inning, as they each hit two-run shots to left field. Felkenhan finished the day 5-for-6 with seven RBI and three runs.
GW added a run in the top of the sixth when Michael Parker blasted his team-leading seventh home run to make it 11-2. The senior scored both of the Colonial runs.
Towson scored another five runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh.
Freshman starter Bobby Lucas (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall College HS) was tagged with his second loss of the season.
Towson's starter, Matt Holley, pitched five innings, allowing just one run on five hits to earn his first win of the season.
After winning seven of eight, GW has dropped their past four games. Their all-time record against Towson falls to 26-21-2. The two teams will play again at Barcroft Park, next Tuesday, April 3, at 3:00 p.m.
George Washington returns to Atlantic 10 Conference action this weekend when they host the University of Richmond in a three game series. The Spiders defeated Old Dominion on Tuesday, 3-2, and downed James Madison today, 4-3.
The opening game between the Colonials and Spiders is Friday at 4:00 p.m. Both Saturday's and Sunday's games are scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start time. All games are played at Barcroft Park.
