GW Baseball Drops Game to Cross-Town Rival Georgetown

ROCKVILLE, MD - Georgetown (10-14) overcame five errors Tuesday afternoon to defeat George Washington (8-15) at Shirley Povich Field by a final of 5-4. The game was originally scheduled for February 13th, but was postponed until today because of winter weather at the time.
The Hoyas jumped out in front of the Colonials early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning, taking advantage of four walks and two hit batsmen.
GW cut into the lead in their half of the second. Charlie Kruer (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) led off with a single into center field and then advanced to second on a single into left by Whitey Wallace (Syracuse, NY/Phillip Exeter Academy). A wild pitch gave the Colonials runners at second and third with no outs. Curtis Eward (Oak Hill, VA/Oakton) drove in Kruer with an RBI-groundout to second base. Wallace scored GW's second run of the game a batter later when Georgetown's first baseman misplayed a relay throw from right field on Andrew Abokhair's (Ashburn, VA/Broad Run) fly out.
Georgetown added a run in fourth to make it 4-2 in their favor.
GW fought back to tie the game with a run in both the sixth and seventh innings. Shortstop Michael Parker (Newton, MA/Newton) singled into center, stole second, advanced to third on Whitey Wallace's fly out to right-center and then came around to score on another Georgetown error.
In the seventh, Mickey Shupin (Sea Girt, NJ/Wall) reached on a bunt down the third base line and then moved over to third on perfect hit-and-run executed with Bryan Hwang (Northvale, NJ/Northern Valley-Old Tappan). Parker was up next and he singled to drive in Shupin for the tying run.
Georgetown scored the eventual game-winner in the bottom of the eighth inning, taking advantage of a leadoff walk. Freshman pitcher Ryan Lapointe (Somersworth, NH/Phillips Exeter Academy), in his third inning of work, managed to pitch himself out of a bases-loaded, no-out situation, allowing just the one run to score. LaPointe (1-1) gave up four hits in his three innings pitched.
Faizan Choudhry (Langley, BC/Langley Secondary) worked 4 1/3 innings of relief, allowing just one run as he scattered six hits and recorded one strikeout.
GW is now 86-28-1 all-time against Georgetown, including the 17-9 Colonials' victory from earlier this season.
George Washington travels to Towson University (8-16) on Wednesday to face the Tigers at 2:30 p.m.
