
Men's Tennis Cruises Past Howard, 6-0

MONTCLAIR, VA - The George Washington University men's tennis team earned its third victory of the season with a 6-0 win over Howard on Friday, Feb. 4, at the Montclair Country Club. The Colonials earned the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and 2, respectively, while winning 5-of-6 singles matches as the Bison had just five players.
Senior Jake Jopling (Wexford, PA) and Mustafa Genscoy (Istanbul, Turkey) won their second doubles match of the season playing at No. 1 with an 8-5 victory over Kenneth Brown and Brandon Smith, while senior Daniel Raisbeck (Bogota, Colombia) and sophomore Daniel Balke (Portage, MI) closed out Jibade Thomas and Faron Carter, 8-5, at No. 2.
In singles play, Jopling improved to 3-1 at the No. 1 position with a three-set triumph over Brown. Jopling rallied after dropping the first set to win 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. Genscoy topped Smith, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, at No. 2, while Raisbeck secured his second victory of the season at No. 3 with a straight-set win over Thomas. At the No. 5 spot, junior Will Timmons (Greenville, SC) battled back after dropping the first set to post a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win. Freshman Sam Salyer (Minneapolis, MN) won by default at the sixth spot to record GW's final point.
GW (3-2) is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 5, when it faces Navy at 12:30 p.m. at the Montclair Country Club in Montclair, VA.
