GW Baseball Signs Josh Goldberg And Steven Wallace

WASHINGTON, DC - Infielder Josh Goldberg (Albany, NY/Albany Academy) has signed a National Letter-of-Intent with The George Washington University, head baseball coach Tom Walter has announced. Steven Wallace (Syracuse, NY/Phillips Exeter Academy) also will join the 2004 GW squad as a catcher/outfielder.
Golderg and Wallace join Anthony Smith (Katonah, NY/John Jay), Derrik Lutz (Grantville, PA/Lower Dauphin), Michael Parker (Newton, MA/Newton South) who signed with the Colonials in the fall. "Both of these players will help us tremendously and make a difference immediately," Walter said.
Goldberg, an Albany, NY native, comes to GW from the Albany Academy. He is a right handed hitting infielder, who can play all three infield positions. An above-average third baseman, Goldberg's versatility allows him to play several other infield positions. Offensively, Goldberg hits for average and will hit power as he gets stronger. He has great instincts defensively and on the base paths. "We certainly look forward to work with Josh day in and day out" Walter added. "He is an everyday type of player, a guy who wants to get better everyday and we love those types of players."
Wallace hails from Syracuse, NY and attends the Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. He is a catcher/outfielder with above average arm strength and excellent speed. Walter said, "Steven fills a need for us and we look forward to working with him. He will be a terrific addition with his defensive versatility."
The Colonials finished the 2003 baseball season with a 37-18 overall record. Their winning percentage of .673 is the team's best in Coach Walter's seven-year tenure. GW advanced to the Atlantic 10 Tournament for the fourth consecutive year, winning the Conference title in 2002.
