George Washington Opens Season at Mary Washington Kickoff Classic

Fredericksburg, VA -- The GW Men's Tennis team opened the 2002-03 season with a trip to the Mary Washington Kickoff Classic, which included Mary Washington, Liberty and Washington College. Over the two-day tournament, GW managed to win nine singles matches and six doubles matches, led by freshman Marius Weigert (Hilton Head, SC/ESI International Academy) who secured four victories, two in both single's and double's competition.
The nine singles wins were made up of Weigert's two victories, as well as two victories each by sophomore Jake Jopling (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) and freshman Tim Rogers (Newtown, PA/Council Rock), and one victory each for juniors Matt Hane (Walterboro, SC/Porter-Gaud School), Brett Warner (Vienna, VA/James Madison) and freshman Jason Sucoll (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury). Four of the singles matches on Sunday were rained out.
The doubles victories were provided by teams of Hane and Wiegert, sophomore Matt Treadgold (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Catholic) and Warner, and Rogers and freshman Joe Weissfeld (Akron, OH/Firestone).
