WASHINGTON, DC - Sophomore Matt Hane (Walterboro, SC/Porter-Gaud School) and freshman Matt Treadgold (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central) have been named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference men's tennis team in voting conducted among the Conference's head coaches following the Verizon Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship. Hane also was named the A-10's Most Outstanding Performer. Together, they helped lead GW to the Atlantic 10 championship final.
The 2001 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, Hane powered his way through the A-10 tournament winning all three singles matches at No. 1 and while posting a 2-1 record at No. 1 doubles at the Oxford Athletic Club in Oxford, PA, from April 12-14. Hane was one of only two George Washington players to win a singles match in the championship final against Richmond. The Colonials finished second to Richmond with Hane defeating his counterpart, Niki Doll, 6-3, 6-2. Hane was the A-10's Player of the Week on Sept. 25.
Treadgold went 2-0 in the A-10 Championship at No. 2 singles and 1-0 at No. 2 doubles. In his first season of collegiate tennis, Treadgold posted a 12-3 record while playing at Nos. 2, 3 and 4 singles and a 9-5 doubles record, all at No. 2.
The Colonials (16-7) won 16 matches, including a 10-match win streak, in the first season at their new home facility on GW's Mount Vernon campus.
