Men's Tennis Finishes Second at A-10 Championships

PITTSBURGH, PA - The Colonials men's tennis team advanced to the final of the 2002 Verizon A-10 Men's Tennis Championship before falling, 4-2 to Richmond, Sunday at the Oxford Tennis Club in Pittsburgh, PA. The Colonials defeated Fordham, 4-1, Friday and Xavier, 4-3, Saturday to advance to Sunday's championship final.
GW went 8-1 against Atlantic 10 teams during the regular season losing only to Richmond and defeating Temple twice. The Colonials extended their winning streak to 10 matches before losing to the Spiders
"They really played well with a lot of heart," GW coach Tom Hawkins said. "Richmond had a stronger team than we did, however, we had a real shot up to the end of the match. Kevin [Wright] had just split and Chris [Moulton] lost because of one break in each set."
The Colonials completed the 2001-02 season with a final record of 16-7 that included a 10-match win streak.
